Isolation

One would think that after spending eight of ten days in isolation there would be more to show of my thinking than one blog post. Alas, one is all that there is. I climbed into isolation to protect my family and to recover my health. I brought with me a few books, my sleeping bag, two jigsaw puzzles, a book of crosswords, and my devices. The idea of amusing myself for ten days seemed daunting but with frequent zoom chats with my children to play games, a Christmas holiday through the screen, my books, some planning for upcoming lessons, and lots of long walks on my deserted dirt road the time flew right by. In fact, I think I enjoyed the slow pace of my basement cave moving from my reading corner to my working corner to my puzzle corner. I do know one thing, however. I would not have been able to recover without the amazing support of the upstairs dwellers. From their food deliveries, checkins at meal times, masked companionship on my walks, to just living life upstairs so that I could hear gave me what I needed to plow through this very strange moment in time.

I hope that the new year treats you all well. Though my health was tested, I am fortunate to have come out the other end no worse for wear.
